Our Story

Getting Started

Running Creek Farm is a small family operation based in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Scott and Amy Keys created the farm on land owned by Amy’s late grandparents, Walter and Annie Ruth Grimes. The farm sits on 40 beautiful acres that connects to two different tracts owned by Amy’s dad, Ray Grimes. One tract is 60 acres, the other is 18 acres.

Our first foray into a family farm was several years ago when we raised miniature donkeys on a back corner of the property. We eventually sold out of the donkey business (though they are just down the road, which means we can visit anytime we want) and purchased our first cattle earlier this year. Though there are some 60 head of cattle roaming the farm, most belong to Ray. We’ve got our share of the herd up to 10 - with our beautiful bull, Zeus, leading the way. We have two momma cows, four heifers, two heifer calves and one big ole steer, named Cookie (the Belted Galloway).

The star of the farm is by far, Choctaw, the friendliest burnt orange and white heifer in the land. Our son Blake first brought Choctaw to the farm last year and she has nuzzled her way into our hearts.

Follow our blog as we start this new adventure. We’ll make our share of mistakes, but we will have fun every step of the way. And drop by and see us anytime as our farm grows; Choctaw would love to say hi!
